Waxing

Waxing is a method of semi-permanent hair removal which removes the hair from the root. The effects last for between 2-6 weeks – depending on the individuals rate of hair growth, the time of year and how long you have been having the area waxed.

Warm wax is applied to the skin in a thin layer. The hair becomes embedded in the wax and a strip is applied and then pulled off quickly, in the opposite direction of the hair growth, taking the hair with it.

Pre-Treatment Advice

• Regular exfoliation prevents ingrown hairs and keeps skin looking healthy.
• Regular waxing helps the skin get accustomed to the procedure and may minimise irritation.
• Ideally hair should be between 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch in order for the wax to be able to remove them effectively.

 Post-Treatment Advice

• Avoid heat treatments for at least 24 hours following waxing.
• Avoid the sun immediately after waxing.
• Do not use exfoliating products and loofahs for at least 24 hours after waxing as they may further irritate your skin.
• Avoid tight clothing after waxing as it may result in irritation and ingrown hairs.

Waxing For Teens

When is the right age to wax?
To put it plainly, there is no specific age for waxing. It really depends on the girl and her mother. If your daughter is getting self conscious about her growing body hair, then you can consider getting it waxed. However, the decision also depends on you – the mother. It is also important to find out if you are comfortable with the idea of your daughter undergoing waxing.

To cite the recent trend, most girls start waxing around the age of 12 and 13. If your daughter has never waxed or shaved before, it would be better you advise your daughter to opt for waxing. This will render a smooth finish and long-lasting effect.

Joanne would be more than happy to offer both mother and daughter a FREE consultation to assess and discuss the best way forward. A lesser fee scale applies for clients aged between 12 – 16 years.

Manicures

A manicure is a treatment for both your nails and your hands. Not only are there aesthetic benefits but it can actually improve the overall health and appearance of your hands and nails.

Pre-Treatment Advice

If you have gel based nail product on your nails, extra time is needed for soaking this off; you must state this at time of bookingTo get the maximum benefit from your treatment it is best if you can arrive with clean, unpolished nails.  This enables the therapist to spend more time on your treatment.

Add on a luxury paraffin wax treatment to any manicure or pedicure (without polish) for those hands and feet in need of a little extra care . Joanne uses hot paraffin wax straight onto the skin and then wraps them. This treatment is fantastic to help with dead skin, circulation and re hydration of the skin.

Foot Care

These are the hardest working part of the body so look after them.

Foot Care Package

This treatment is suitable for both ladies and gents. It is particularly popular for those that struggle to reach or care for their own feet for various reasons. These people are not in need of a chiropodist, just someone to help keep their feet in tip top condition.

This package is ideal for basic maintenance and up keep of the nails and skin. Includes a soothing foot soak, toe nails cut and file, debris removed, skin buff with Pedi-file, ideal for mild hard/dry skin helping achieve a smoother appearance, finishing off with a foot massage to aid circulation. Perfect for nail care and mild skin conditions for men and women.

Please note that Joanne is not able to treat you for corns, verrucae treatments, fungal infections etc.

Pedicures

Top tip remove old polish before you arrive to ensure Joanne can use the full treatment time to work her magic. Don’t forget to bring open toe shoes if polishing.

Treatment in the comfort of your own home

Joanne who herself shielded throughout lockdown realised the vulnerability of being stuck inside. She is now branching out to highlight the importance of self care and a bit of TLC for the elderly and vulnerable. She will now allocate time out of her appointment book to offer home visits to those who are unable to leave their own home, or are in residential care or for those who still don't feel confident venturing out. Joanne has found that touch is a very powerful thing. Even holding someone's hand in a simple hand massage can make all the difference and give a sense of warmth and well being. 

Home visits are available on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Call 01768 862291 where the reception team will arrange a call back from Joanne to discuss your needs and wishes

The cost of a home visit is £30 which includes the visit and your first treatment. Any subsequent treatment that day is charged at her salon rate.

Joanne McDonald is our self employed Beauty Therapist. She is a local girl with over 30 years experience. Joanne has benefited from extensive training with Babor and other beauty schools in London, Germany, Cheshire alongside her training at Carlisle College

She has a loyal and long standing customer base that has grown in numbers over the years, which stands testimony to the highest level of service she can provide to you the customer whom she always put first.

Joanne’s down to earth attitude means that she is approachable, putting people at ease to discuss even the most delicate of concerns. It goes without saying that all clients benefit from her strict confidentiality policy.
